Learn About What Makes God Perfect using our newly added F3 Folder Lesson
F3 Folder on the Perfections of God |
1. Each of our F3 Folder lessons comes with some basic lesson sheets that are glued into the file folder to not only provide text for learning, but also shows you where to put the little paper pieces that are included in the file. Each spot is clearly labelled to make things more convenient for you.
2. Our F3 Folders have a limited number of pieces, usually between 6-8, to make the lesson text and materials more meaningful as the focus is on the lesson itself and not making the pieces. Pieces are designed to be made as the lesson is taught.
3. Lastly, our F3 Folders are designed to fit into a 3-ringed binder for easy storage. They don't require any special folds, but rather just a bit of trimming. Some projects require a double (two folders) and they still fit into the 3-ringed binders. Great for classroom, co-op or homeschool use.
We have just added our Perfections of God F3 Folder lesson to our collection. This single folder project comes with two main sheets and eight pieces. The lesson focuses on the perfections of God and answers these questions: Is God Perfect? What makes Him perfect? How can we get to know God? The monstrance is highlighted as well as an introduction to the Theology of the Body (TOB), and writing prompts to reflect on virtuous living. Lots of opportunity for discussion and scripture study. Expect to focus on these perfections:
God is All Knowing
God is All Present
God is Almighty
God is Eternal
God is All Merciful
God is All Good

F3 Folder Explains the Sign of the Cross, Holy Water and the Sanctuary Lamp

I wanted to do a lesson on the powerful meaning of the Sign of the Cross. As a people of God, we begin almost every prayer with a praising sign of adoration and belief in the Holy Trinity, but do we remember what we are really doing when we enter the church, dip our fingers into the Holy Water and make and pray the sign of the cross?
I wanted to reinforce this most basic Christian sign with a lesson that:
Illustrated the sign of the cross
Provided the prayer in both English and Latin
Explained the sign of the cross and why we use it
Gave an explanation of the use of holy water as we enter/leave a church
Encouraged children to look for symbolism in our faith
Showcased the sanctuary lamp as a symbol of Christ's presence.
My latest F3 (Flip, Flap and Fold) Folder called, The Sign of the Cross, does all of these things in a very simple and fun way.
This nine page FREE down loadable lapbook style resource will provide just about everything you need to create this F3 Folder for use in the CCD classroom, but also in your own little homeschool or co-op. It is very interactive lending itself quite well as a discussion starter. The file includes all the sheets, pieces and a teacher's answer key as well. See our video for more instruction on how to make and use this resource.

How Much Do You Know About Sacramentals? Our F3 Folder Lesson Will Help You Find Out
Inside of our F3 Folder on Sacramentals |
Our Flip, Flap & Fold (F3) Folder helps teach about sacramentals at home or in the CCD or religion classroom.
What do a plastic rosary, a stone church, a fifteen foot tall wooden crucifix, and a tiny paper prayer card all have in common? If you guessed that they are all sacramentals, then you are absolutely correct.
If you aren't too familiar with sacramentals in general or you are not sure about their purposefulness and importance, then you definitely won't want to miss today's special resource that teaches about the sacramentals used in the Catholic church.
Outside of our F3 Folder on Sacramentals |
Today's resource is our first ever full F3 Folder. If you are intrigued by lapbooking, but put off by what appears to be lots of prep and effort, then our F3 resources are probably right up your alley. They are smaller, self-contained lessons with paper pieces inspired by my friend, Shell, of Thinking Love, No Twaddle blog, who makes and shares with us lovely little lessons that contain everything you need to effectively deliver them to your kiddos. This keeps the learning focus on the lesson and concepts and not so much the prepping and making of the project pieces.
And if you have ever wanted to incorporate file folder projects into a classroom or group setting, say your CCD class or religious education co-op lessons, but just weren't sure how, then you'll definitely want to download today's free resource.
To show you just how easy it is to use this five page printable resource, watch our short video that explains how to create and use this fun and very do-able resource in your little homeschool or classroom.

F3 Resources to Help Study About the Gospel and the Evangelists
Lent and Easter provide us with a great opportunity to hear the Gospel from more than one Evangelist. We know that the word gospel means "good news" while evangelist means "teller of the good news - our Saviour has come". The Evangelists - Matthew, Mark, Luke and John - each have a unique way of writing about the life of our Lord in the books of the New Testament called the Gospels.
St. John wrote as a loving friend of Jesus; his gospel is often referred to as the Gospel of Love.
St. Matthew writes as a apostle or eyewitness and includes more of Jesus' teachings on the heavenly kingdom than any of the other writers. For example, he writes a complete account of the Sermon on the Mount.
St. Luke gives a great detailed account as one would expect from a doctor. Although He did not know or travel with the Master, he interviewed many people who did including the Blessed Virgin Mary. A co-worker with St. Paul, and author of the book the Acts of the Apostles, he compiled all of the interviews he took about the life and times of our Lord Jesus into one very detailed account. His writings were meant for everyone who loves God.
St. Mark wrote his gospel account in the words of St. Peter. It is Peter's eyewitness account of Jesus' ministry, life, death and Resurrection.
Each cover and include many of the same facts, but sometime there are unique differences that set them apart for the reader. One easy example of this can be seen in when the author's introduce our Lord. Matthew begins at the genealogy of Christ, while Mark begins with John the Baptist crying out in the wilderness. St. John's Gospel was the last to be written of the four and included many details left out by the other three writers.
To help learners (both young and old) more easily understand the Bible, we created a few notebooking sheets and F3 (flip, flap and fold) pieces that can be used to learn about the evangelists, the Gospels and then individual accounts in the Bible.
The notebooking sheets give an opportunity to comparatively write out the details of a specific event as it occurs in each gospel. We have created two sheets. One could write or draw details. These can be useful for grades 4+.
The F3 pieces provided are patterned after the inquisitive KWL style organize(know, want to know, have learned). In this set you will find sets featuring: the Gospels, The Evangelists, St. Matthew, St. Mark, St. Luke and St. John. There is opportunity for drawing as well as writing. This F3 project resource can be completed and mounted on card stock and then bound together using a spine of some sort, brads, rings or any other way that you may prefer.

Let's Learn About the Sacraments
This is the time of year when many parents (and catechists) begin really focusing on the seven sacraments, especially if their children are preparing for the reception of sacraments themselves. This can sometimes be an overwhelming task for young hearts and minds. To help children accomplish this task, I usually recommend using the New Saint Joseph First Communion Catechism. This is a very well done and easy to understand presentation of the basics of the faith for young Catholics.
To go along with this resource, I created some F3(Flip, Flap & Fold) Pieces. I simply ask the children to pick out a few things that they have learned about each sacrament and write it on the lines. Then they cut out the rectangles, fold on the lines and glue the piece to create a single page book. These can easily be glued into their Religious Ed. F3 folder or any other notebook, folder or project. This allows you to see what the child finds most important about each individual sacrament.
Sample F3 Pieces |
As a bonus, the F3 pieces go with our Sacrament Match-up Game. If you love Where's Waldo type games, art and your faith - then this is the game for you.
This game allows you to teach the seven sacraments using descriptive clues and art details from the The Seven Sacraments by Rogier Van der Weyden. Details in the artwork reveal lots about our rich Catholic traditions through each of the sacraments. Each sacrament is highlighted and the children really enjoy trying to find the examples within this beautiful work. Print out the pieces, cut apart, and laminate for durability. This is a great game for use in CCD or religious education classes. A full class period can be devoted to playing this game if teachers explain details and nuances of the faith as they go through each detail page and then the clues themselves. Be forewarned, this is not as easy to complete as it looks. Many times we can easily be stumped by the simplest clues. Instructions are provided and a reference sheet is included to aid in game play.
I hope that this helps you in your sacramental prep or catechism review.

New Printable Little Lesson on Discernment - Includes Lapbook Pieces, History Cards, Text and More
New Little Lesson on Discernment helps teach us about hearing our Lord's call.
We thoroughly enjoyed this lesson and we hope that you will too.
Today I want to highlight a new little lesson from Michelle over at Thinking Love, No Twaddle. This lesson highlights St. Peter's call to follow our Lord and proceeds to show how others were and still are called to do the same - including us. Learners are gently guided to thoughtfully think about how our Lord may be purposing His will for them to understand, undertake and carry out to fruition by showing examples from scripture, the saints and more.
This lesson is so well done that we decided to complete it and show you our corresponding F3 Folder we created. Why an F3 Folder? Because they are just big enough to create and use all of the wonderful pieces Michelle has created while providing you a place to store them, the lesson text sheets and be able to refer to them later on in an orderly fashion. There will also be some space for you to add little quotes or such. F3 Folders close up so neatly too. Click HERE to see how to make a folder for your needs. We have used a single folder for this project however the link will show you how to make not only the single folder but the double folder as well.

Go Back to Schooling with a Totally Coolio Little Lesson..and Don't Forget Your Ink Pad!!!
One of the great things about this ministry is getting to know people and the unique talents and gifts that they have to share with the world. Today is one of those days when I am sooo excited to pass along a resource that was shared with us from Michelle over at Thinking Love, No Twaddle.
Michelle is a wonderful mum of six children from the UK. I love that she creates her Little Lessons for all of us to use. My children can't wait for her new resources to arrive, especially the ones that focus on the saints or incorporate the liturgical year and, oh yes, art too! We love that she puts so much info and time into a resource writing a full text for subjects that many wouldn't even attempt to touch - and all of this is done through the lens of the Catholic faith. Bravo!!
Today I share, from Michelle, a wonderful 14 page Little Lesson on fingerprinting!! Be sure to have your stamp pad handy as the children will want to examine their own fingerprints (and probably yours too!) While you're at it you may want to have a scissors, glue stick and art supplies on hand as well because there are some really great pieces to cut out and assemble in an F3 folder, as well as some perfect notebooking sheets to add to your collection. There are even history cards!! Don't know anything about fingerprinting? That's okay because she has some great text and coolio pictures as well which give samples of fingerprint details. You could have a whole day of history, science and art fun with this set. Here are just a few sample pages:
I just love this resource set. What a great way to go back to a more scheduled learning time!! Thanks so much, Michelle and Bravo once again!! God bless you for all you do for us homeschoolers. I truly believe this is why this ministry was put upon our family's heart - to help us, help one another. Amen. :)

You can find all of Michelle's shared resources either on her page with the link above or on this blog by searching the words, Thinking Love, No Twaddle. Her page on our forthcoming the new website will be fully updated, spanky and hopefully we will have everything up in the next month. Please keep us in your prayers.

Advent. . .the Coming F3 Lapbook Style Activity and Go-Along Notebooking Sheet
Fun activities help children learn about and invite the season of Advent into their hearts and minds.
Advent begins this weekend. It is the season that prepares us for the nativity of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Today we offer a very fun and effective way of reviewing the main points of Advent using our F3 lapbook style activity sheet and a specialized set of notebooking papers.
Who's coming?
When are they coming?
Why are they coming?
Where are they coming?
Using the sheets provided, scissors and glue, they can create and write the answers to the questions out themselves using resources they have at home or info from formal lessons or they can use the answers provided for them in boxes that they simply cut and glue into place. This helps younger learners who are not confident writers to easily complete this activity as well as CCD classes who may have a time constraint to work around or with. answers are given. Instructions are included on the individual sheets and labels are provided in gray to help children glue things properly into place.
As an additional fun activity, older learners may want to complete one of our newspaper style notebooking sheets to write an "article" about Advent or the Nativity itself. The notebooking sheets are available in different styles with opportunities for drawing or attaching a photograph about the forthcoming important events.
We hope this helps you start your season of preparation for our Lord with thoughtfulness, smiles and joy!!

Faith Lesson on Creation - Includes Acitivity & Poster, New Game and Matching F3 Piece
Today we offer a fun filled lesson on Creation as it is described in the book of Genesis in the Bible. This lesson has three parts:
1. Finding out what your children already know about Creation
2. Sharing the account of Creation from the Bible
3. Recalling the facts and details
Begin the lesson by finding out what your learners already know about Creation.
This is a perfect time for a family or class discussion. This can take as much or as little time as needed. You want to find out what the children already think about how the world got to be in existence. Ask for the details that they can recall about this colossal event.
Share that God created the world out of nothing. Explain that God created the world and everything good in it as it is one of His perfections (All Powerful) and also that He made everything to work in a most perfect way together as part of another one of His perfections (all Wise). To help children figure out what God created and what man has made, play this very short but engaging game called, "Who Made This". This game uses actual photographs of things and asks children to categorize who made it. Each of the cards is numbered and an answer key is provided for quick reference. Many important things are included in the pictures that children confuse as God created vs. man made like the rosary, the church, chalice, etc.. I have used it in a group and it worked perfectly. You can always create two sets and have the game played in separate groups. There are a total of 32 cards.
Share the account of Creation from the Bible.
Share the account of Creation from the Bible.
Recall and solidify the facts.
Using our F3 piece to correspond with this lesson, learners cut and paste two pieces together to create a single flap that asks them to recall what happens on each day of creation. The piece matches the theme of the lesson and can easily be added to their Catechism F3 Folder. Instructions are provided on the piece.

F3 Pieces for Each of Elements and a New Idea for F3 Fans
Flip, Flap & Fold Pieces help bring the elements to life in a new easy to make notebook project.
Simply cut the cardstock in half (8.5"x5.5"). Use as many sheets as you desire. Stack in a rainbow array of colours. Cut your two cardboard pieces slightly larger than the half sheets. We added .25" to each side. Bind at the shorter end using your method of preference and voila your notebook is ready. Decorate the cover as desired.
As your learner completes the F3 element pieces they simply affix them to a page in their new notebook. They fit absolutely perfectly for this project. You may want to do what my daughter did which was to create a whole notebooks of scientific terms and info. Just a thought.

So I knew this request would be inevitably coming from my daughter, "Mom can you make an F3 piece for each of the elements of the periodic table?" And so it did yesterday. I began working on the element pieces in the same style as the physics/chemistry term pieces as she requested. They are simple to use and non-threatening. They can help learners acknowledge information that they already know, think about what they still want to know about the element as well as note what they learn on their journey of discovery. This CM inspired resource is far different than a fill in the blank worksheet in that children learn and create out of what inspires and moves from the material. But the question for me then became what to do with all the finished pieces??
I realized just how lovely these little pieces of paper grew to be in the hands of my child. The joy that they inspired for a subject that was once met with apathy, disdain and at one point rebellion. But what do we do with all of these pieces?? We didn't want to create a full F3 Folder for each one as that was way to daunting a task. So we put our heads together and came up with this really great notebook project that anyone can make. You really just need some cardstock, (coloured cardstock works great), two pieces of cardboard - even a cereal box will do, and something to bind it with. We used a comb bind spine but you can also use a hole punch and insert rings, long twist ties, twine - anything really. This project can be as simple or as fancy as you want it to be.

Science F3 Pieces to Help Young Scientists Discover the Fun of Physics and Chemistry
New F3 Pieces help learners grasp basic physics terms using writing and art skills.
As we continue to organize the study of the elements and periodic table in our own homeschool, we offer some new F3 pieces designed to help children discover some of the most basic terms used in physics and chemistry. This first set includes the terms: atom, matter, molecule, element, compound, solution, and mixture. These pieces are very versatile as they can be glued into a science notebook, a notebooking project, one of our F3 folders, or glued onto plain paper and then bound on the left hand side to make a book. You may find yet another way to use them. :) These graphic organizer styled pieces combine writing, art, comprehension, and fun. Another plus for these pieces is that they can be used with whatever resources you have at home or can easily find at the library making them very flexible and cost effective.
We hope that these pieces bring fun to your learning day and inspire your young scientist to learn even more about God's glory in action.

Catechism Lesson on The Trinity - Includes F3 Pieces, Copywork, Mini-books and More
In our last lesson we discussed and tried to help our children understand the Perfections of God. In this lesson we begin to think and talk about the Holy Trinity. The Trinity is very difficult for children to understand fully. Why? Because it is a hard concept for adults to understand fully as well. The Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC: 202) explains the Trinity in this way:
Jesus himself affirms that God is "the one Lord" whom you must love "with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength". At the same time Jesus gives us to understand that he himself is "the Lord". To confess that Jesus is Lord is distinctive of Christian faith. This is not contrary to belief in the One God. Nor does believing in the Holy Spirit as "Lord and giver of life" introduce any division into the One God: We firmly believe and confess without reservation that there is only one true God, eternal infinite (immensus) and unchangeable, incomprehensible, almighty and ineffable, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit; three persons indeed, but one essence, substance or nature entirely simple.

Print out F3 piece. Directions are included on the sheet. Cut out pieces on dotted lines. Fold flaps toward the centre on black lines. Glue appropriate description to the corresponding flap. Glue to F3 activity sheet called: The Holy Trinity, included in the file. Share and discuss the piece.
Read the Bible passage from the F3 Activity sheet and discuss together as it applies to the Trinity.
Step Three
Have the learners complete the My Book Mini-book - The Trinity. This is available in two styles. There is a blank book for older learners and a prompted style book for younger learners. Simply have children complete the pages, cut apart on the lines, stack and staple. It is easy and a fun way to narrate back information or show proof of learning. This little book asks students to complete the following tasks or questions:
Who or what is the Trinity?
Write or draw about the first person of the Trinity.
Write or draw about the second person of the Trinity.
Write or draw about the third person of the Trinity.
Write out the sign of the cross prayer.
Draw a symbol of the Trinity.
You may want to have younger learners use some of our copywork sheets to solidify the uniqueness of the Trinity. We offer these worksheet resources:
10 Words About the Trinity. These trace copywork sheets are available in both print and cursive styles.
The Sign of the Cross Prayer. These trace sheets help children learn one of the most basic prayers of the Catholic faith.
You may want to finish up your lesson on the Trinity with our science experiment on the 3 states of water as they could be related to the Trinity. We have previously posted about that here.
**As a little note, we understand that what we have shared is not a perfect example of God, nor is a shamrock, three lit candles, or a triangle a perfect illustration as nothing is perfect but God. But these symbols help children to begin to understand the concept of one God in three distinct and separate persons.
We hope this helps the religious education of your children in some way. :)

Special F3 Folder for Catechism Lessons
Fun F3 Folders help solidify learning and keep things organized.
Some of you have decided to join me for my weekly Catechism Lessons or would like to do these activities in your own CCD classroom or homeschool. I have previously made reference to my special F3 Folder that I use each year. Today I share with you my unique and fun approach to goal oriented learning, tracking student progress and lesson planning all in one.
I start off with the most important 25 concepts that I intend to cover for the year. Planned on a 35 week year it takes into account Christmas and spring breaks, snow days, and the flexibility to spend an extra week here and there covering topics that need reviewing. I generally do not give tests but rather do most all assessments with assignments, activities, and game play.
Using a two page system, I grid out 25 squares. I put each of the topics we will cover in a square on the page. I allow one week per topic knowing that a few topics will take a few classes to cover. These squares represent the topics covered not necessarily recalled to perfection. For example, we have the whole year to memorize the Ten Commandments in order but I will spend one night specifically on how the Ten Commandments are the basis for the examination of our conscience. I place a wonderful picture as the grid background of Jesus and the children with the topics still visible. Download this two page (grey scale & colour) resource Here.
I trim the grid to fit the F3 folder. I then glue a grey scale version of the grid on the front of the folder. As we cover different topics, I give a coloured piece of the grid to the children to affix in their F3 Folder (See pic. above). At a glance, I can tell who has been in class when and who has covered what material. The children love seeing the colour picture unfold and it makes a great little keepsake at the end of the year.
I also include a few other things in my binder to start the year off in the right direction. They include Prayers I Should Know and More Prayers I Should Know which can be found here on our resource site. I place them in clear plastic page protectors so that they are durable.
I also give out Mass Journal sheets and I require one a month to be turned in after children attend weekly Mass. They can be printed out and hole punched and put in folders or they can be cut and glued onto and into an F3 Folder. I have used both ways successfully before. You can see both versions of my Mass Journal Notebooking Sheets or even other notebooking sheets perfect for a learning journal here. In the past I have also required Learning Journals in years where attendance has been a problem. Thankfully it is not all that often. :)
I hope this helps or inspires your learning year in some small way.
Blessings,
