Sweet Beautiful Homekeeping Resources for Mums and Daughters

Victorian themed goodies from the new, Young Homekeeper's Collection from Life in the Little Nest.

If you have ever wanted to really incorporate gentle learning with home skills then today is your day to start - or at least be inspired to start - compliments of Kim over at Life in the Little Nest.  Today she has some really sweet note cards to share with mums and daughters as well as some bookplates and a bookmark that is sure to speak to the hearts of Charlotte (CM) educators.

We are called to be the first teachers of our children, and that includes home skills - especially for our daughters.  Today's resource can surely help with this task.  Each note card set is a two page resource that not only provides a beautiful make it yourself card and envelope, it also has suggestions on how to use it with your daughters.  There are three sets available.

*There is one set for "The Seamstress" to encourage sewing and other hand sewing arts.

*There is another set for "The Good Book" to encourage daily prayer, devotion and reading God's Word.

*The last resource is a note card set for "Lessons From My Mother" to encourage your daughter in her growth and share your life stories with her.  This set is perfect for an invitation to tea with your daughter at home or even at the local java house, for a special outing and special time together.

The bookplates are a lovely addition to books your family intends to keep and the bookmark allows your young reader to mark their favourite books in the page as well as on the bookmark itself.

Thanks for sharing, Kim!  These sweet resources have inspired and encouraged me to make more time to share the little treasures in life with my own children - outside of formal lessons.

It's Time to Think About Getting Organized for the New Year

New winter journal pages help us to get things organized in the new year.

It is time to think about the approaching new year.  If you are like me, you may be a bit overwhelmed with all that still may need to be done in 2010 and with the thought of starting a new year.  Homeschooling will start again shortly as well as planning for winter tasks, activities, and spring needs as well.  What we all may need is some simple organization of our time, talents and tasks.  Thanks to Michelle over at Thinking Love, No Twaddle, we offer a nice set of Winter Journal pages to help us get our sights set on moving forward into a new year.

In this set of twelve landscape styled pages, we can see weeks at a glance, note down birthdays so they are not forgotten, plan our menus, track our learning and reading, plan our curriculum purchases, and more.  This cute winter themed resource brings life and smiles to the tasks that we need to complete.

Find the link to this set below as well as an add-on two page set with the numbered days of the month for January 2011.

Thanks so much, Michelle, for sharing this goodie with us busy homeschooling mums!!

Let's get ready for the coming of our Lord! New Chore Cards to Help Keep Your Learning Area and Home Organized During Advent and Everyday.

Chore cards let you decide on and delegate tasks for learners to prepare for Advent and help keep them organized and happy in their daily lives.

Advent is here!!  As we begin the season of Advent, we are advised to prepare our hearts, minds, and homes for the coming of our Lord, Jesus Christ.  Many Christians "Christmas clean" and decorate their homes with Advent wreaths, hanging wreaths, Christmas trees, candles, a nativity scene and so forth.  But we must clean before we can decorate just as in the same way we must have reconciliation with our Lord for our sins before we can celebrate His arrival into our hearts.  Today's resource helps us to do just that, but not just for Advent and Christmas but all the year through.

Our Family Chore Caddy
We've all heard it umpteen times before, children like structure and to feel included in family tasks.  By contributing time and energy to keeping their home, living space and learning area neat and clean, children learn to value their belongings, their learning materials, their books and so on.  Not sure about this notion?   Just think about how you feel when things are in such grave disarray in your home.  Do you feel like relaxing in it?  How about reading in that space or being creative and writing in a journal amongst the material chaos that eventually overwhelms every homeschool family at least a few times throughout the year?  And if you are like many homeschool families and have a large size family or run a full time family business out of your home, you know even more about the importance of staying organized.

There are many different approaches to delegating tasks for housekeeping and even learning tasks.  Today we offer a new set of chore cards.  Simply print out these colourful themed sheets, cut apart on lines, write out the chore and glue it onto an index card.  You could also decide to print these out on card stock and simply cut them apart resulting in a slightly smaller card.  We glue ours to index cards and sit them in a caddy or index card box.

A sample of a few of the chore cards in this new set

Here are a few ways to consider using these cards:
  • Assign certain tasks to specific children.
  • Write individual tasks on cards and have children randomly pick a specific number to complete for the day.  This is good for children or siblings who have about the same level of personal skills.
  • Create a personalized stack for each child to do on a regular basis.  You could even assign certain graphics to a specific child or use coloured index cards for specific children.  They will always know which cards and tasks are theirs to complete.
You can find this new set of 14 different cleaning themed graphics for both boys and girls as well as the original set of 14 chore cards we previously created with fun themes in .pdf files ready to go for this busy holiday season.  This resource was originally part of our Climb a Ladder to Heaven family learning project.
