Meaningful Colouring for Tweens? Yes!

Fun-filled colouring pages created with tweens and beyond in mind.

Tired of the same old cartoon pictures for coloring? Want something spiritually uplifting or challenging for your bit older kiddos? Then have we got goodies for you.

Colouring books have been around since the late 1800s. Once referred to as paint books, these little books were used to help children learn concepts of art and improve their cognition. I have found, however, that we have never finished a colouring book and my children (and perhaps yours as well) like to pick and choose only the pages that they want to colour and eventually end up tossing an unfinished book to the recycle bin. So here's how we combat that dilemma - single colouring sheets that reinforce our learning lessons.  It's double duty art fun.

Whether they are colouring pages that reiterate Aesop's morals, encourage practicing writing and pronouncing the names of favourite dinos, or are so engaging that they help them understand and memorize the Stations of the Cross - our sheets do double duty. But I bet you aren't surprised to hear that are you? We are all about the fun in learning, but also about preserving our precious time as well.

Paper Mate Flair Point-Guard Porous Point Pens, 12 Colored PensVisit our revamped colouring pages to see our collection of art sheets highlighting Mother Mary, the Stations of the Cross, Sacred Heart of Jesus, the Rosary, and more.  Using classic public domain images, our pages offer challenging fun for tweens and older learners who can once again relax and enjoy colouring.  We suggest using good quality coloured pencils or fine tipped felts.  My tweenie loves to use Paper Mate Flair Point-Guard Porous Point Pens, 12 Colored Pens. She used those to colour the picture above.

Please note that since we use public domain images for many of our resources, we are limited in our selection.  Some mysteries of the rosary were not available, but we are always on the lookout. :)

I'll also put out there that we are always looking for more artwork for the kiddos.  So if you have any art skills or a passion for creating colouring sheets we would love to help you share your work with others and give you full credit.  We could even create a Friends page for you to highlight your work or help point others to your blog or website.  Contact us if you are an artist who would like to help out other homeschooling families or educators around the globe.

Plus, keep watching for our set of colouring pages that are specifically designed for religious education and my CCD classes. Join us on Facebook to get it as soon as it is uploaded.

More Dino Resources - Math Counters and Colouring Sheets

More hands-on dinosaur resources help bring learning to life

As we continue our dinosaur themed learning, we thought that we would share more goodies that help keep with the theme and encourage more tactile learning and 'outta the box' learning.  These printable resources are fast, easy to prepare and fun to do.

Dino counters used in a simple way.
Dino Math Counters add fun to learning for many different ages.  The focus of this set includes cards for the numbers from 0-100, even & odd numbers, and the math symbols: + - ÷ = < > .  This resource is perfect for Montessori style learners and are always a hit or the boost to success when a change of pace is needed in studying one of the most difficult of subjects.
This set can be used to reinforce numeral names, number order, math symbols, number sentences and also odd and even numbers. Each coloured set of Dino graphics has been assigned even or odd numbers to help players learn independently. Also, odd and even usage can be worked into other usage games as well. For example, if number sentences are created, players can be asked if the answers are odd or even.  Another simple game is to have siblings try to stump one another by calling out a number sentence and the other player must put it together and correctly figure it out using only the cards.  You may want to print two sets to do more advanced games. You can find this set as well as our entire collection of math counter sets here, each with a slightly different focus.

Our Dino colouring sheets were a direct request from our daughter.  She requested that there be an animal to colour, their name to trace and the pronunciation of their name as well.  So we managed to come up with a few using public domain images.  We hope your children enjoy them as much as ours do.

Click Here to download our Dino colouring sheet set.
We also have other colouring sheets that can be found here including Aesop's Fables and some Burgess books go-alongs as well.

We hope your learner enjoys some hands-on fun today learning about these giants of the past.

July 2 - Worksheet set Little Liturgical Year July - The Precious Blood of Christ

July is the month dedicated to the Precious Blood.

We start off July with a lovely offering from Michelle over at Thinking Love, No Twaddle.  This 6 page worksheet set Little Liturgical Year July—Precious Blood is quite nice as it gives a heads-up calendar of saints for the month, introduces children to St. Longinus including a colouring sheet, and presents the background of the Holy Grail.  She has even included some timeline cards as well.  Really neat!!  Thanks, Michelle.

Our children love using Michelle's things as they are packed with solid info and neat facts.  These would be neat for use even for CCD reinforcement.  There is always some aspect of art included too, which is really really nice.  Many Catholic parents forget just how important art can be in teaching the faith.  Art provides the validation of history.  There were no cameras, no videos, or even books as we know them in the modern sense.  There was oral tradition and art.

From the Dark Ages and even into the Middle Ages there was no way to help tell the story of Christianity and Catholicism except oral tradition, direct oral teaching, and artwork.  Art in various forms, including stained glass windows, served to teach the uneducated and illiterate the content of the Bible and the truths of the faith for hundreds of years.  Even after Gutenberg created the printing press around 1439, it was a very long time before average people could afford anything printed - including a Bible.  Art study was and still is a very valuable and viable tool to use to teach our families about our Faith.

June 1 - Extra Resources to Kick off June

June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and today is the Feast Day of St. Justin.

We have some extra additions to share today.  We happily offer a really neat worksheet packet about the Sacred Heart of Jesus shared by Thinking Love, No Twaddle. (Find out more about this mom at her blog.)  This is a neat offering as she has a colouring page and art page for young ones and meatier learning pages for older ones.  You just have to love multi-aged homeschools!  These are very informative and solid.  Thanks again to Thinking Love No Twaddle. :)

Today is also the feast day of St. Justin Martyr.  Help your learners find out more about and narrate what they learn by using our My Book Mini-book: St. Justin Martyr.  These mini-books are always a favourite and include writing prompts to keep learners on track whether they are writing or drawing out the information.  They are perfect for lapbooking as well.

May 16 - More Mary Colouring Sheets

Here are even more Blessed Virgin Mary colouring sheets for budding artists. These sheets are from the over 300 Bible lessons available on our Faith Study - Bible Study Resource Page. Find links to either the Old Testament or New Testament near the bottom of the page. By studying God's word we can learn about our Lord, Jesus Christ, as well as His mother, Mary.  Although these Bible lessons were created using the King James version of the Bible, they are still a very useful tool for learning.  We were lucky to find these lessons and be able to share them with you.  Lesson packs contain fact recall, colouring sheets, puzzles and more.
To download and save these .PDF colouring sheets, right click the images, and click Save target as and then browse to the place you want to save it to on your computer.
