LIttle Cards Help Make Big Learning in Greek and Music

Don't worry about cramming it all in; little by little works well too.

I spend most of my year teaching and thinking about education.  I am either teaching my own children or children at our parish (CCD) or pondering and preparing my lessons for teaching the next year.  I am always looking for new ways to introduce new information, concepts and lessons.  It can be a big task, unless of course I remember that I am teaching little hearts and minds.  The key word is little.

There always seems to be a struggle about how much information we can concretely deliver into little hearts and young minds.  Many of us start off one of two ways.  We either begin rather zealously and fizzle out with fatigue or we begin feeling in control only to hit a cramming session at the end of the year when we find we have not met our learning goals.  If you are following a prepared curriculum or adhere to state or government standards you must meet certain criteria or learning outcomes.  This can be overwhelming to both teacher and learner.  Not running a good race, as I think of St.Paul, a race that is consistent, steady, paced, and goal oriented, will undoubtedly lead to exhaustion, fatigue and in most cases, tears and despair.  We must remember, as Christians, that we are always to be a  people of hope.

As promised, today we have more goodies to share from Shell over at Thinking Love, No Twaddle.  Shell's resources reminded me about how presenting big information in little ways (cards in this instance) can bring about great learning.  By teaching new information consistently in little increments and reviewing often, big tasks become a series of little victories - even in the subjects of Greek and music.

In Greek, these colourful printable resource sheets are cut into fun little cards that help teach about the Greek alphabet.  Find cards in different styles to help solidify learning the different facets of the Greek alphabet including symbols and pronunciation.

In music, the resource she shares helps teach young children rhythm in 4/4 time.  By using a little string of words, clapping, and little cards, children can become comfortable in picking and repeating rhythms.  This seems elementary and unnecessary until you realize that not every one has this ability naturally.  If you have ever tried to teach rhythm to someone who has none, you know how daunting and fragile this task can be.

New Greek Worksheets to Help Homeschoolers

I'm Learning Greek!  Are you?

Actually we are studying Latin in our little homeschool, but many Catholic homeschooling families end up doing some of both Greek and Latin.  Classical style learners gravitate toward learning Greek as well.  If you currently study Greek or perhaps are wanting to dabble in learning Greek, then the resource we share from Michelle over at Thinking Love, No Twaddle can help you explore the Greek language with your children.

Today's free printable is a five page worksheet set that is bright and inviting. I'm Learning Latin 1 contains sheets to prompt children to think about what they are learning as well as gives a review for basic vocab.  Originally created to be used with the great materials from Kidsgreek.com, these sheets can still be quite useful for those using other programs as well.

Thanks, Michelle, for sharing your time and energy with us. :)

New Greek and Latin Language Worksheets for Kids

New worksheets to help kids learn Latin and Greek languages.

We love seeing how creative other people can be.  We find it inspirational to see how other moms or teachers design resources for the same topics we cover in our own little homeschool.  Oh the creative fun and joy that makes homeschooling so unique and effective.
Today we share resources created by Michelle over at Thinking Love, No Twaddle blog that help kids learn about the Greek and Latin languages.  The first worksheet is one that helps children learn about the Greek letters in a review form using matching strategies and a review of simple sentences that go with the Kids Greek curriculum put together by Bill Mounce.

The second resource offered today is one for Latin language lovers and those using the Latin program Getting Started With Latin by William Linney.  This two page resource is a neat little cut and paste review activity to go with lesson 24.  Very cool.
Thanks so much, Michelle for sharing your energy and creativity with us.  God bless you and yours!

May 28 - From the Heart of Mary - The Greek Alphabet and Symbolism

From the heart of Mary, charity makes itself known.  So too in the sharing of resources for other homeschooling families in this month of our Holy Mother.

We are happy to present more in the A Little bit of Greek worksheet set generously shared by Thinking Love, No Twaddle. (Find out more about this mom at her blog.)  These resources highlight the Greek Alphabet (3 pages) and the history and meaning of the 3rd century symbol for Christianity incorporating the alpha and omega letters (1 page).  These worksheets are simple, clean, and easy to follow.

Thank you once again to, Thinking Love, No Twaddle! :)

If you would like to help grow our ministry by sharing a resource with others, drop us a line and let us know. We can post your resource, give you full credit, and enable you to reveal your Heart of Mary to other homeschoolers.

May 18 - We Learn by Mary's Example

Let us live and lead others by the Holy Mother's example
When we study about Mother Mary we learn that she is humble, loving, filled with charity, and willing to help others.  As we highlight our Holy Mother this month, let us not forget that by studying and learning about Mary, we too can become like her.  The resource we share today, in our opinion, comes from the heart of Mary as it is shared by a fellow homeschooling mom of 6 children - talk about humble, loving, filled with charity, and willing to help?

Find a neat little 4 page worksheet packet of A little bit of Greek generously shared by Thinking Love, No Twaddle.  These worksheets are really nice because the font is a good size, the concepts are presented in little chunks and it gives one an idea of what learning a little bit of Greek would be like.  As we study Latin in our homeschool, this will be a nice change of pace and a fun addition to our learning day.

Find out more about this mom at her blog.  We thank her so much for exemplifying Mary by sharing your time, talent, and knowledge with other homeschooling families.
